Serving The Community
I am on the Franklin-McKinley School Board where I am currently the Clerk. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from UCLA, and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School at Loyola Marymount University. I am currently a partner at one of the largest education law firms in California. I primarily advise school boards and executive staff on complex legal matters across the state. My legal practice allows me to support board members and superintendents to fulfill their mission in educating students consistent with the law and values of the community.

I am a current FMSD Board Member, and father of two FMSD students. I have supported several District initiatives including:
- The implementation of new state-of-the-art curriculums for all grades;
- After school programs and extended learning opportunities;
- Increased pay for quality teachers and staff;
- Dual language immersion (Spanish & Vietnamese);
- A new college savings plan for FMSD students;
- A brand-new enrollment center;
- Regular parent townhall meetings with the Board;
- A strong balanced budget;
- Fully credentialed teachers;
- Diversity, equity and inclusion efforts; and
- Critical support for our Family Resource Centers.
While I am proud to support these issues, I am ready to do more for you and our community. I want to make FMSD the premier choice for education in our area.

I was born and raised in San Jose, California. My wife and I both work in public education. As an education attorney, I spent the past 10 years assisting school districts face many complex challenges. For over 22 years, I have worked on behalf of local governments by overseeing the expenditure of millions of dollars, I have prosecuted criminals and provided legal advice to various county departments.
I have a deep faith in public education, and I have been involved at FMSD over the past several years. Prior to becoming a Board Member, I volunteered as a parent chaperone on many field trips for my son’s classes. I also regularly volunteered at the District level providing parental feedback on a wide range of topics.
I served as a member of the following committees:
· Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee (DEIB)
· District Advisory Committee (DAC)
· Budget Advisory Committee (BAC)
· Superintendent’s Advisory Committee (SAC)
· Board of Education Advisory Committee on Board Vacancy (2018)
I regularly attended these committees and contributed to their mission. The honor of being a Trustee requires the commitment of service. I listen to all concerns with seriousness and sincerity. I promise to work hard in being prepared and informed. I will spend the necessary time to review Board packets and ask questions. I am empathetic to the reality that some need more and that the resources of the District are for the education of the children. I have an extensive understanding of District operations, Board Policies, staff roles and responsibilities, legal requirements and limitations upon the District. I have served educational agencies for nearly 10 years, and I would continue to use this experience for the betterment of FMSD.

I love the fact that FMSD’s Mission Statement promises that FMSD will equip our children for their future. The Mission declares:
The Franklin-McKinley School District will ensure all 8th grade student graduates have the skills and knowledge to be ready for a college preparatory curriculum in high school. They all will have the ability to pursue a program preparing them for university and/or careers and lifelong learning.
Every word of this Mission Statement is important, but the most important part of the statement to me is the commitment to “lifelong learning.” FMSD has the privilege of educating our children at the beginning of their life journey. This foundation is the bedrock for how our children take in information about the world they will inherit. The beautiful thing about education is that it allows an individual the opportunity to uplift themselves and their community.
